Global Business Program (GBP)



Application Steps

We process applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Our programs fill up quickly, so please apply early.

Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Read our website for information about our different programs, including dates and costs.
  2. Download a copy of our application.
  3. Fill out an application form and gather supplemental materials (see Application Requirements below).
  4. Submit your complete application by e-mail, fax, or mail (see Application Submission below).
  5. If you are accepted to the Global Business Program, we will send you an acceptance e-mail with program details.
    • If you are outside the U.S. and you need an I-20 to apply for an F-1 student visa, we will send your I-20 and acceptance packet to your mailing address. The acceptance packet includes information about paying the SEVIS I-901 fee and preparing for your F-1 visa interview appointment.
    • If you will transfer to our program from another U.S. school, we will include transfer instructions in your acceptance e-mail.
  6. After you have been accepted, get ready to come to Seattle by reading our information about arriving in Seattle and looking for housing.

Application Requirements

To apply to the Global Business Program, please submit the items below. For information on where to send your application materials, see the Application Submission section.

  • Completed and signed application form
  • Non-refundable application fee of $50 USD
  • Express mail fee of $40 USD (only required for students who need an I-20 sent to an address outside the United States)
  • Copy of the page in your passport with your picture, name, and birthdate
  • Official bank statement

    Official bank statement (less than six months old) and letter of sponsorship (if sponsored) confirming you have the funds necessary to cover all tuition and living expenses while you are in the U.S. Both documents must be in English. Please refer to the Program Details page for estimated costs per quarter. Contact us if you have questions about the funds that must be demonstrated for your program.

  • Proof of English language proficiency (see below for minimum test score requirements)
  • Résumé listing your education and work or volunteer experience.
  • Letter of application describing your reasons for applying, what you hope to gain from this program and how your experience prepares you to succeed.
  • If you plan to bring any dependents with you (spouse or children), you must include a copy of the page in their passports with their picture, name, and birthdate. In addition, you will need to provide proof of financial funding for each dependentís living expenses.

To enroll in the Global Business certificate program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the time the program begins or be 17 years old and have graduated high school
  • Meet one of the following minimum language requirements
    • TOEFL iBT - 76 (17*)
    • IELTS - 6.0 (5.5*)
    • PTE - 51 (45*)
    • TOEIC - 750 (LR)
    • EIKEN - Pre-1
    • MET - 64
    • Completion of the Intensive Business English Program (IBEP) with a 3.0 or above and an Institutional TOEIC (LR) score of 730 or higher

*No subscore can be below this number

If you have previously attended our Intensive English Program (IEP) and choose to enroll in the Global Business Program, you may not return to the IEP.

Note: Applicants who want to study for less than the standard nine months in the Global Business Program should contact us to discuss their options. Additionally, this program requires a minimum number of students to run. In the unlikely event that this program is cancelled due to low enrollment, all program and registration fees shall be refunded.

Transfer Students

If you are currently studying at another U.S. school on an F-1 student visa and you would like to transfer to the University of Washington, please follow the application steps listed above. You must also complete a Transfer Eligibility form.

We do not normally issue transfer pending I-20s to students before the start of our programs unless the student needs the I-20 for the purpose of re-entering the United States.

Note: The Global Business certificate program is not a degree program. Admission to this program does not constitute or guarantee admission to any University of Washington degree program.
