Global Connections Study Abroad Program

Admission Requirements

The Global Connections program is open to international students who have completed a minimum of one year of university-level coursework. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, in good academic standing at their home university and have demonstrated proof of satisfactory English language proficiency.

Exception: International students whose primary and secondary education took place in Australia, Canada (English-speaking provinces), Great Britain, Ireland, New Zealand or the United States are exempt from the English language test requirement. Students born in one of these countries but educated elsewhere are still required to satisfy the English proficiency requirement.

Application Steps

Follow the application process carefully to ensure that you have completed all the steps. Admission to the Global Connections Study Abroad Program is competitive. Please apply early to allow for time to get your visa. Applications are accepted until the program is full, but priority will be given to applicants who apply well before the deadline.

Follow these steps to apply:

  1. Read this website carefully, especially the costs, dates and refund policies.
  2. Download and complete the Global Connections Application and personal statement.
  3. Mail your completed application and personal statement to the address found on the form, along with:
    • $50 nonrefundable application fee
    • Express mail fee of $40 (only required for students who need an I-20 sent to a non-U.S. address)
    • Proof of English language proficiency (usually a TOEFL iBT or IELTS score)
    • Copy of the page in your passport with your picture, name, and birthdate
    • Copy of your most recent academic transcript
    • Official bank statement (less than six months old) and letter of sponsorship (if sponsored) confirming you have the funds necessary to cover all tuition and living expenses while you are in the U.S. Both documents must be in English. We accept photocopies, but please be ready to provide originals if asked.
    • If you will bring any dependents (spouse or children), you must include a copy of the page in their passports with their picture, name, and birthdate.

      Please allow 9 to 12 business days after we receive your application for our staff to process it. If you are accepted to the program, we will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20).

  4. Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.
  5. Contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate to schedule an F-1 visa interview appointment. Bring your I-20 and supporting documents to the interview.
