Program Details
Morning Class
This class is designed to give students who are planning to study at an U.S. university the skills and cultural information needed to make a successful transition into college life.
You'll participate in activities designed to improve your English proficiency and prepare you for academic work in university classes. You'll also have a chance to explore and enjoy Seattle with your classmates and interact with U.S. university students through conversation practice.
The morning studies take place in the classroom. You’ll work on the following areas:
- Speaking and listening
- Vocabulary-building tools
- Reading strategies
- Academic writing
- Learning about the Seattle area
Afternoon Field Trips
Field trips are an important and enjoyable part of STEP. Destinations may include:
- Pike Place Market
- Seattle Center
- Bellevue Square shopping mall
- A ferry ride to Bainbridge Island
You’ll also have the opportunity to go on a campus tour, enjoy group sports or gaming activities and visit different Seattle neighborhoods.
Instructors
The program is taught by experienced instructors from UW International & English Language Programs. All have advanced degrees.
