Academic Preparation


If you are an international student planning on studying at an American college or university, the IELP academic preparation programs at the UW are a great way to get ready. Whether your main goal is to improve your English, brush up on your study skills, learn more about a particular topic or simply get accustomed to academic life in the United States, our programs are an excellent place to start.

We offer five academic preparation programs, which vary in terms of length, student population, purpose, English proficiency level and other factors. Click on a program name to see further details and learn how to apply.

Intensive English Program (IEP)

Our largest program offers three tracks and more than 30 different courses to help prepare you for studying at an American college or university or enable you to reach your personal and career goals.

Graduate Preparation Program (GPP)

This four-week course readies graduate students for the intellectual and psychological challenges of U.S. graduate study.

Advanced Conversation Course

Improve your conversational English skills with this evening course, which features two different tracks.

Pronunciation Course

Improve your overall pronunciation skills by isolating and improving individual components of speech.
