Come practice your English and learn about American culture! In Language & Culture Short Term English Program (STEP), you’ll learn English from an experienced instructor in the mornings, and see the beautiful sights of Seattle in the afternoons. You can improve your speaking and listening in just weeks.

Who Should Register

This program is for people interested in American culture and improving their English, as well as those who want to experience student life in America before committing to a longer stay.

Language & Culture STEP is open to beginning to advanced students of English. You just need basic English skills to participate. For specific requirements, see How to Register.

Schedule

Classes meet in the mornings, Monday through Friday, for a total of 15 hours a week. Two afternoons per week, program staff and UW students lead optional Seattle-area sightseeing activities.

Housing

*Students are responsible for finding their own housing.

On-campus housing is available for summer STEP programs only. 

For students joining our program in winter, we recommend contacting a local homestay agency to live with a family in Seattle. 

Transportation

The cost of transportation during the optional afternoon activities is not included in STEP tuition. You'll take public transit for these activities and have an opportunity to purchase an ORCA transit card at the start of the program.

Health Insurance
